Pinging other sites

A short test to see if the pinging extension I wrote works correctly...

Edit: Hard to tell.

Validation Trouble with bbCode

After starting to use the bbCode plugin for Drupal (which incidentally makes a lot of things much easier, like Wikipedia links and quotes), I unfortunately spent over an hour revising the entries and the modules so that the page would be XHTML-valid again.

Headings cannot be inside a paragraph tag; did you know that? I do, now. This means that when bbCode converts a heading to an html tag, it needs to add a closing paragraph tag before it and an opening one after it.

Clean URIs with PHP, part two

This post is not going to go into much detail - I have my last lectures tomorrow, before the exams next week, so I really have other things on the horizon, but I can give a brief run-down of what else is involved in using PHP to make clean URIs.

It appears my blog has been rejected for a lack of content. This is harebrained on two different levels:

Clean URI schemes using mod_rewrite and PHP (Part one)

I recently read an article over at w3.org, titled Choose URIs Wisely. The gist of it is that web addresses should be concise, easy to spell and remember, and be persistent even when the site is reorganized.

Aranfoolcaytar on Technorati

The next step in the life of a fledgling new blog is the Technorati claim. Having the website indexed there and regularly crawled, it is practically guaranteed that your tags will be seen at some point. Also, it is an easy way of tracking who is linking to your blog.

Pecunia, etc.

The advertisements are back. Not that they earn me even a fifth of what I spend on the hosting, but I never give up my optimism. Just yesterday, someone clicked on them - second time this month!

This site is about to get several other modules that might be fun. I'm also trying to work out how to ping weblogs from here... it should be possible.

Automatic Technorati tags might be a plus too - perhaps the Taxonomy could be of use there.

A new home

This could be a long soliloquy in which I explain exactly what is wrong with Blogger (easily the single ugliest service in Google's collection), but instead I'll make it short. Enough of forced localization, messy All Your Base-style translation, non-intuitive and feature-less engines - I'm moving to Drupal.

An interesting scenario

At a messageboard I frequently visit, the following poll was posted recently.

If your country was under occupation from foreign invaders, what would you do?

Now, mind you, most people there (as everywhere in the English-speaking web) are Americans. Also, you had to be blind not to spot the analogy here. The assumption was that there would be an armed resistance group battling the invaders.
